Betsy Ragone spent 20 years of her professional life working in Healthcare Information Technology. She is a daughter, sister, friend, wife, and most importantly, the mother of a daughter and a son.
Her son Michael lost his battle with substance use disorder on January 17, 2016. He died of an accidental heroin and fentanyl overdose here in Charlotte NC. In response to his death, Betsy founded the nonprofit Michael’s VOICE, Inc alongside her daughter Michelle. The goal of Michael’s VOICE is to raise awareness, provide education, and reduce the shame and stigma associated with substance use disorder. During the time she was putting Michael’s VOICE together, Betsy met Mary Ferreri, who shared her dream of starting a recovery high school. Betsy was drawn to the thought of how a recovery high school may have changed the trajectory of her son’s disease. She is proud to be a part of the Emerald School of Excellence and the hope it will bring to the community. She resides in Indian Land, NC with her husband Mike and their dogs Vito and Midge.
