The Emerald School of Excellence team has worked tirelessly to make the first recovery high school in the Carolinas a reality. The dedicated Emerald School of Excellence volunteers, committees, and board of directors have been hard at work preparing for this upcoming school year! Here’s a look at some of the work that took place in the months before the official opening of the school:
During the last few months, multiple workdays were held at the school to clean, paint, and organize the classrooms. Additionally, donations were collected from individuals and organizations to help fill our classrooms with supplies and furniture. Carolina Green Industry Network and a team of Emerald School of Excellence volunteers also worked on landscaping projects outside of the school building. This included laying the bricks from our brick campaign and adding mulch. All of these changes to the school campus really made it comfortable and welcoming for incoming students.
In addition, our five committees and board of directors have been meeting regularly to help organize events, fundraise, finalize the curriculum, and wrapping up any details necessary for the opening. It has been gratifying and inspiring to see the energy and work of our volunteers, committee members, community partners, and board of directors come to fruition.
